Aromatherapy is a branch of phytotherapy that uses volatile ingredients of aromatic plants. These plants have the ability to synthesise an essence due to photosynthesis and sunlight. Aromatherapy originated from ancient Egyptians who used fragrant oils in incense, medicine, skincare, cosmetics, massage and embalming the dead. In 1935 Aromatherapy was fully developed in Lyon, France by Rene-Maurice Gattefosse.
