Microdermabrasion was originally performed by a dermatologist or surgeon under anaesthetic using a motorised wire brush head that would take off the epidermis. The downtime would be around 2 weeks with a high risk of infection after the treatment. In the mid 8-80’s the treatment was reinvented, and a machine was created that used vacuum suction and crystals to gently lift off dead skin cells. By the 2000’s the treatment had gained popularity and across Europe.
