In 1954 acrylic nail extensions were designed by a Fred Slack who broke a fingernail and created an artificial temporary nail replacement. Acrylic nail extensions are made from a monomer liquid mixed with a polymer powder to form a paste. The acrylic paste is applied to the natural nail over a sculpting form, creating the desired shape and length.
